Pinctada pearls are mainly sourced direct from Pearl farms located in Australia, Philippines and French Polynesia. Our pearls are hand selected by our expert team of Pearl Curators. The pearl producing countries of the South Seas produce the highest quality pearls. They are grown in the unique variety of pearl producing oyster known as Pinctada.
Pinctada pearls are all natural. They are grown in the oceans of the south seas in different varieties of the Pinctada species. The white tone pearls are formed in the Pinctada Maxima white and silver lip oyster. The golden pearls are mainly from the Pinctada Golden lip variety. Darker tones pearls ranging from light grey, greens, purples to black are mainly found in the Pinctada Margaritifera species. The colour is a result of the species of the oysters and the ocean environment.
South Sea Cultured Pearls are the strongest of all the cultured pearls grown today. They are composed of thick layers of calcium carbonate formed over many years of growing in the nutrient rich oceans of the South Seas. The wild oyster provides the material to form the pearls. Due to the healthy environment of the oceans and the high quality farming techniques, they are the strongest and most durable pearls in the world.
Pearls require very little maintenance. Pearl strands are strung with a silk thread and knotted between pearls. We recommend not to wear them in the water as it can loosen the thread. Pearl strands if worn often should be restrung every few years. Pearls are only vulnerable to acids, chemicals and lack of moisture. Do not spray pearls directly with perfumes, Hair spray or cleaning products. Clean pearls with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove dust and oils. We recommend to keep separate from you other jewels as some materials can scratch pearls. Place inside a box or wrap in soft cloth.
